The 'Jolly Boys and Girls Outing' is over and we are all safely returned to Portland and Weymouth after a couple of weeks birding on the Greek island of Lesbos. So far as this relates to birding here at home goes we have all gained more experience of many of our scarce migrants and other potential visitors.
One of those species was the Red-backed Shrike... a female turned up here on Portland today. Here she is shortly after being ringed at the Observatory.
|Red-backed Shrike - sadly no longer a regular breeding bird in the UK.|
